EWR Stable stalwart Dueton continued his consistent campaign with a solid third placing behind star sprinting three-year-olds Sheidel and Rebel King in the Classic Meats Handicap (Race 8-1000m) at Ascot this afternoon.
Dueton found himself positioned midfield on the rail in transit, after encountering mild interference shortly after the start, and was on Rebel King’s heels when entering the straight. EWR stable jockey Jason Whiting elected to stay on the rail and follow Sheidel, and it paid dividends when he squeezed up inside a tiring Benito and dashed home over the final 200 metres to edge out Rock Magic on the line for third, only 1-3/4 lengths away from the winner (Sheidel).
Dueton has been knocking on the door all campaign with two thirds, two fourths and a fifth from his six starts, and we are confident he will return to the winner’s circle very soon, with several suitable races on offer over the next six to eight weeks.
Due Sasso two-year-old Sleeping Assassin was not disgraced when finishing eighth in the Bell-Vista Fruit & Veg Plate (Race 1-1200m) and will now head to the paddock for a six to eight-week spell. He still has significant maturing to do and we are pleased that we were able to get him to the races as a two-year-old.
