Stable champ causes an upset at Belmont

Our stable star Dueton scored his first win since January 2014 when nosing out red-hot favourite Rebel King in a thrilling finish to the Budget Good To Go Sprint (1000m) at Belmont this afternoon.

Dueton settled fifth on the rail after jumping from barrier one and was gifted a rails run at the top of the straight, with stable rider Jason Whiting driving him inside runners to nail Rebel King right on the finish line and record a short half-head victory.

The five-year-old was on the quick back-up after appearing to be outclassed in last Sunday’s Northam Toyota Stakes (1100m), but appreciated the drop back to a rating 72-plus handicap and the return to a more forgiving Belmont racing surface.

Dueton, who has now won eight races and over $379,000 in stakes from 37 starts, will now more than likely head towards the Ratings 78-plus Handicap (1000m) at Belmont on Saturday May 23.
