|RACE||(6) THE ST VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY SPRINT (1000m)|
Eric reckons …
Dueton has enjoyed an easy time of things on the training track since his upset Rating 72-plus win at Belmont on May 9, when enjoying a soft run in transit and making the most of a rails run in the straight, sprinting quickly along the inside to defeat odds-on favourite Rebel King by a short half-head. We have him right where we want him — happy and healthy — so we have only done enough with him to maintain his current fitness levels.
While we got all the favours when making the most of barrier 1 last start, things will need to fall into place this afternoon, jumping from the outside barrier. We are expecting good early speed from the likes of Rebel King, Blacksmith, Modello and Thateldo, and the faster the better for Dueton, as it will allow him to drop in with some cover and give him the opportunity to make up ground in the straight.
Dueton has raced really well all campaign and his last-start win suggests he is well and truly back on top of his game. Obviously, the barrier is not ideal but if the pace is right on then we expect him to be running home powerfully at the finish.
Verdict: Top-three chance, with Rebel King and Thateldo the ones to beat.
