Dueton brave as ever in Summer Scorcher

Stable champ Dueton gave some of his more fancied rivals a fright when finishing a close-up fifth in today’s $100,000 Schweppes-Summer Scorcher (LR-1000m) at Ascot.

Ridden by Jason Whiting, Dueton came from eighth at the 600 metres and loomed as a winning chance half-way up the straight before finishing only a three-quarter length from the winner, star sprinter Sheidel (click here to watch race replay).

Dueton, who is back racing in career-best form, ran home in 34.10 seconds, the second fastest of the race behind the fourth-placed First Among Equals (34.07).

Providing he recovers well, the six-year-old son of Due Sasso will now head towards the $100,000 Miss Andretti Stakes (LR-1100m) at Ascot on Saturday January 16.
